What are fillers?

Fillers (dermal fillers) are injectable treatments placed under your skin, filling and plumping the area and enhancing your appearance by:

• Diminishing wrinkles around your mouth and nose
• Filling the undereye area to reduce dark shadows
• Rejuvenating the backs of your hands
• Erasing small lines above your lips
• Enlarging and reshaping your lips

What fillers will I receive?

Dr. Babaian offers Juvéderm fillers produced by Allergan, Restylane by Galderma, and Belotero by Merz Aesthetics. The Juvéderm family currently includes six fillers, while Restylane has nine.

All the different fillers have the same ingredients: a hyaluronic acid gel. However, each filler has a different thickness, making each one better for certain wrinkles and treatment areas.

Your skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, which retains moisture and supports hydration, fullness, and softness. However, as you age, you produce less hyaluronic acid, leading to dehydration, volume loss, wrinkles, and loose skin.

What happens when I receive a filler?

Before recommending a filler, Dr. Babaian and her staff will carefully evaluate your skin and learn about the cosmetic concerns you want to improve.

If they determine that fillers are the best way to achieve your desired results, they explain the procedure, including the number of treatment sessions and shots needed to achieve your goals.

Most fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that reduces discomfort. However, your provider can also numb your skin. Juvéderm and Restylane offer fillers without the medication for anyone who may be allergic to lidocaine.

You may develop temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or pain at the injection sites. Your provider explains how to care for side effects and asks you to avoid exposing the area to sunlight while it heals.

How long do filler results last?

You'll immediately see the difference after your injections. Restylane results last six to 18 months, Juvéderm maintains your results for one to two years, and Belotero lasts up to one year, depending on the product used and the body area targeted.*
